Hello Mandie,

Try to provide some additional information about the error:
- describe your actions step by step;
- specify the format of the file you are trying to convert and its origin;
- specify at what moment the error occurs.
- attach the error printscreen of the error

Best Regards

Hello,

To solve the issue, we need more information about the error.

So, please:
1. Launch AVS Video Converter and choose the input file
2. Press To AVI button and select the preset
3. Double click on Advanced button
4. Make a screenshot of the file information and attach it to the post.

Best Regards

Hi,
you can make a screenshot using the keyboard PrintScreen button. After you press it, open the Microsoft Paint program and paste the screenshot into it using the paste option or Ctrl+V key combination. Finally you can save the image into a file with .bmp or .png extension.
Best regards.

to all who got this problem:

the solution is quite simple: there are two things you have to check.
1) I got this problem, when i chose device "I:" as output folder which was an external harddrive so he couldn't find any folder on that drive.
-> choose a folder or drive your computer can find. ^^

2) check if your output folder is write protected. that would be the second thing.

all in all i can say that error 256 mainly depends on a directory problem. so check all things about input and output.
greetings

Hello,

Please make sure that you have the latest version AVS Video Editor 6.0., which can be downloaded from this link.

At which exact step of producing video you get this error?

Best regards.

Hello,

Please make sure you have the latest version AVS Video Editor 6.1.2.211

If it does not help, please give the details about the problem:

- specify the format of the files you work with. their location and origin.
- specify which format you produce your project to and which output settings you select.
- specify your PC configuration (Operating System, CPU, Ram).

Best regards.

plus:

3) Make sure, not only the output PATH is correct, but also it contains a valid filename and EXTENSION.
Example:
Outputfile: I:\anypath\filename -> error 256
Outputfile: I:\anypath\filename.m4v -> works fine
