in AVS video editor how do I get the video clip to start after a 8sec opening text - they are both starting together.

You can add a color for the length of the opening text. Please note the screenshot attached.

Thanks Nadin just tried adding a colour for the opening and it works - just to elaborate now I'm getting the hang of it - is there a library of pictures or video clips I could add behind the colour, or use in place of the colour or do I make up my own starting clips or photos to add while the text is shown.

Hello,

Unfortunately, there are no special pictures or video clips in AVS Video Editor library to which you can add text and use as intro for video. You should import your own files or just put a color as a background and overlay text to it.

Please note the discussion above.
In the new version AVS Video Editor 5.2. you can also simply drop text to video line to put it before video.

Here are the details how to create chapters.
