I tried to solve a rather minor, but annoying, problem (sync problems converting flv to DVD) by doing a complete uninstall/re-install, as advised by Support.

Now the Media Player won't open IFO files, which are central to several of my workflows. I've got a feeling it's pretty simple to fix this, but I can't find the solution in these forums or by Googling.

I run on Vista 64 bit platform, and as I said, had no problems before the re-install.

Anyone got any ideas?

Best regards

James

For anyone who has had the same problem, AVS support has contacted me with the following message:

"Unfortunately the development of AVS DVD Player has stopped and AVS Media Player that has replaced it does not support DVD video files."

Just at this point in time, I can't understand this 'development'.

Why would AVS reduce functionality? Shame.

I say we customers should put pressure on them to restore this function!!!

Unfortunately, for the moment given DVD playback feature has been removed from AVS Media Player, however, someday we do hope it will be restored. We apologize for the inconveniences caused.

Can someone from AVS please explain WHY DVD Player functionality has been removed from Media Player. I have purchased AVS Unlimited expressly to use this function so I really feel ripped off. Please please explain this action.

The functionality has been reduced due to some bugs found in the program. This is to be corrected asap.

I guess that explains why I'm redirected on this page:

AVS4YOU >> AVS DVD Player >> Navigation During Playback

AVS DVD Player
Current Version: 2.4.5.153
Release Date: 05/03/2009
File Size: 25.70 MB

From one of the FAQ links I was lead to believe I could be the previous version, that link takes me only to the regular download page.

Then my main question (of 2 questions) is this:

1. Can I have BOTH "AVS DVD Player" and "AVS Media Player" programs installed?

2. If not, then is it a problem (for the other programs) if I uninstall this 'new and improved' player with the older version?

AVS DVD Player is not offered for download on our website anymore, as its development has been stopped. The page you have mentioned will be removed from the website. As for AVS Media Player, you can follow this link to download the program.

Problems really might occur, we do not quarantee that AVS DVD Player will function smoothly.

Why won't this product play movies I rent from Netflix? I've loaded AVS Media Player ... This site also references AVS DVD Player but I can't find where to download it from.

I subscribed and downloaded the AVS products including the media player as recently as four days ago. I did that tursting the claim that the dvd authoring or editing softwares produce files that can be burned a read across popular players. I was surprised when the AVS media play couldn't play the dvd created by its sister software from my disc drive. I'll be grateful to anyone who can throw some light on this specific issue.

Download the VLC Media player in the meantime.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It plays DVDs and a lot more.

Just a suggestion.

As already said, DVD playback functionality has been removed from AVS Media Player. Other AVS programs do read DVDs and convert to DVD format, but the playback option is not available, unfortunately. You can search the Internet for free DVD players or use the link provided by KSum.

Hi.
It's not much to ask, is it? I want to play a DVD on my laptop. I have Windows Media Player Version 11. It won't play DVD's without downloading and paying for a codec.
AVS Media Player won't play DVD's either. The k-lite codec pack doesn't fix the problem, the mpeg options are greyed out.
I have a player , AVS DVD Player, on my desktop that works fine. I'd like to install it on my laptop but I can't find the download on the AVS website, and I don't seem to be able to install it by copying the folder from my desktop to my laptop.
Actually, I found a download called AVS DVD Player, but it turned out to be AVS Media Player!*CRAZY*
Playing a DVD seems like a very basic thing to want to do. Why am I having such a hard time? Is it me?? Help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mick Berg

Download AVS DVD Player from the link below:

http://www.download25.com/install/avs-dvd-player-free.html

If that doesn't work, do a search on google for AVSDVDPLAYER.exe and you will find a link to download it.

For some reason I seem to remember that the problem with the AVS DVD Player had something to do with a licensing issue or maybe I have got it confused with some other program. This version of media player (AVS Media Player) I don't like the operation of Fast Forward or Fast Reverse because I have to cycle through all the different speeds before I can return to normal speed. Or is this a bug?

This is not a bug, but we will optimize this feature in future. Thank you for the suggestion!

Note, you can click on Play in order to return to normal speed.
