Yes, in addition to the audio / video sync issues I posted about yesterday, I am also having this problem where the cores in my i7 start out at 100%, then drop to 50% about halfway through the encode, then drop to < 10% for the last quarter...

Very sad that I have this fancy new rig with 8 cores and 12 Gb of RAM, the latest version of AVS, and can't get them to work together...

[REPLY]KarlD[/REPLYWhat format are you trying to convert to? I've been having the same issue since day one using the i7 cpu and using the multi-thread setting. If you change the setting to use single-thread then you'll notice that your 8 threads will only level to 20-25% but the conversion time is doubled.

My work around that I have found for converting m2ts files and retaining 1080P w/5.1 surround is converting to mkv format. I am able to convert to this format using multi-thread and converting a 35GB m2ts file in about 5 hours and the converted file ends up only being 4GB with mainting 1080P and surround sound :)

Hopefully AVS will adventually get the software working the new i7 core processor remove all the issues and error codes.

Have you tried converting your m2ts files with original bitrate? Is the resulted video still lagging?

Yes, I have tried with original as suggested in an earlier post. It seems that converting m2ts to mp4 is the issue, but if converted to mkv the video and audio are perfect.

As far as I know, our developers have already created some updates to optimize the second part. I'm running AVS Video Converter V 7.0.2.452 and the above problem still exits. First part takes 7 mins (85%), and the second part 22 mins (15%). Could you please advise which version will the fix be included, or is there a patch that can be applied?.

The updates have been included into version 6.4 and higher. However, we cannot improve the things signifiantly. As I have already said, the second part is building file on hard drive and it is much slower process. Sorry if it may be of any inconvenience.

My PC specs: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5, i7 960 3.2 GHz, 12 GB RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate.

Conversion time for 2 hour movie is approx 30 mins. First part 7 mins (processor 85%), second part 23 mins (processor 3%). RAM is not valid in my case.

If you look at my process time above, it's frustrating for the second process.

I understand your programmers is unable to improve the second part issue signifiantly. However, I gather they are working on it?.

There should not be an issue with the second part of conversion in new version 7.1.3.484. However, we increased full conversion time working on multi-core system in favour of stability.

AVI file size at completion = 1.15 GB

Process Stages %
1st Part Start 0% to 90% - CPU 98% Mem21%
2nd Part From 90% to 100% - CPU 11% Mem 20%

Time Stages
1st Part Time from 0% to 90% = 12 mins
2nd Part Time from 90% to 100% = 4 mins
Total time = 16 mins

The time % for first part is 75%, and the second is 25%. Second part process has improved.

Please convey my results to the developers.

I'm afraid, we cannot make the things better than now. That's because of second part - building file on HDD, it is not multi-threading process.

I remember my conversions used to be really fast and now they are slow, I'm not entirely sure but I think I may have been using my 160gb SSD before and right now I'm using my 5600 RPM 2TB storage drives (really really slow) so I think I'm gonna switch them and see if its faster with the SSD. It's strange cause I have a core i7 980x so it eats videos for breakfast. It just recently started doing this, but that would definitely explain things....
