Probably you are using HD presets for conversion. Try choosing a lower quality preset - this will accelerate the conversion process.

Been trying to convert a dvd to wmv format on my laptop using avs but for some strange reason the software gave me an indication it will take 73hrs plus to complete and this is for a 90min movie. i tried with another dvd and its still the same. am using wmv with hd encoding options. has anyone else encountered this problem and how did they rectify it. tks

1. Save DVD movie (VIDEO_TS folder) to your hard disc first.
2. Import VIDEO_TS.IFO from hard disc into AVS Video Converter.
3. Choose a lower quality preset, as it always takes much time to convert to HD quality.

This way it will take less time to convert your video.

ok just bought avs4you, takes ages to convert AVI file to DVD also do i need to keep converting each time i want to burn a DVD as when i go to the folder to burn DVD palyer cannot read but if i convert again it works fine, just the hassel of converting time its taking over an hour to convert then i have to burn more time.. plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help me out people CHEERS DAVE!!

You do not. You can use AVS Video Burner which can be launched by right-clicking VIDEO_TS folder saved on your hard disc after conversion and choosing Send To > AVS Video Burner. This question has already been answered in the following thread.

Im using a quad core pc and am trying to convert a 600mb tv program so I can watch it on my iphone... It zips along great using all 8 processors and does the first 80% in about 5mins, Then the CPU usage drops to under 1% and suddenly the whole thing crawls along, taking hours to convertthe last 20%. Whats going on here? it is going from hdd to hdd (solid sate disks). Its only using a quarter of the 4gb of RAM. It is almost if it is deliberately limited?

Also, what exact time does it take to convert latest 20%?

Finally, please specify the format of your 600 mb tv program. Does the problem persist with other files?

I'm new at this!! I am wondering if I am doing something wrong because it is taking HOURS just to convert ONE dvd to .avi format!! Will you please tell me if and what I am doing wrong? Thanks!! I am running Windows 7.

Please note the discussion above. If you select HD profiles for output, please select different one. If it does not help, please specify your PC configuration - Operating System, CPU, Ram.

At the end of the video clips the time showing above the timeline was under 2 hours. But at Save Movie, there was a warning to split
the movie in two discs because it will not fit in one unless the double layer is used. And when Conversion is Completed it says it took 2 hours, 10 minutes.

As far as I understand, your video is less than 2 hours long and the convertion process took 2 hours and 10 minutes.
But the duration of the created video does not depend on how long the convertion process was.
Convertion is a rather complicated process and it depends on your PC configurations, the format and origin of the file you are trying to convert, what format you convert it to and what settings you select.

I wanted to make an MKV file from a bluray structure I had on my hard drive. I selected the index.bdmv file and made sure I kept all original so it wouldn't make any changes to the video or audio. After the process started it looked like it would take several hours to do. Why I'm questioning this is because I tried a simple freeware program which lets me select the index.bdmv and creates an MKV file. This program took about 15 minutes to create the MKV file even with the HD audio. Is there something I'm doing wrong with AVS on why it takes so long? All I want to do is NOT convert but create an MKV container of the video files I select. Please help.

Hello,

Blu-ray movie is usually very large by size and it quite normal to convert it to mkv with several hours. Perhaps the program which you've tried changes container without re-ecoding. You can change index.bdmv movie to MKV quickly without re-ecoding using AVS Video ReMaker program.

I'm converting some movie files to DVD. I like AVS4You, it works great! I'm just trying to find out if there is a faster way to convert a movie. Anyway, here is the short and sweet list:

1. .AVI movie convert to DVD = Fail to play in TV/DVD player.

2. .AVI movie convert "To TS" then convert "To DVD" = Success in playing on any player!

The only problem I have is the time it takes to wait, sometimes 2 to 3 hours (Over 1 hour for "To TS", Over 1 hour for "To DVD").

Question: Is there a faster way to convert from .avi, .mkv, .mp4 to DVD?

Conversion is a rather complicated process and it depends on your PC configurations, the format and origin of the file you are trying to convert, what format you convert it to and what settings you select.
However you can try to set the conversion priority to highest in AVS Video Converter - please see the screenshot attached.

Please specify what settings you select for the output file, the model of your DVD player and type of disk used.
Can the created DVD video be played on your PC players?
Do you have the same problem with any DVD disks created from AVI to DVD conversion process?
