I use AVS Video Editor 9.4.

The movie I use to edit works good but sometimes when I put an video overlay on a seperate line the picture will become grainy.

Mostly I use a picture or movie exported from Powerpoint. When I use the same movie as the main movie and put it on the overlay line it will be oke and nog grainy.

What can I do to fix this?

Please send screenshots with the result you get in the described cases: when you put video in overlay and main video line.

Also tell us what are the characteristics of the file you use?

We recommend that you try using different types of decoders: Edit > Settings > Acceleration > Type: Auto, Software, Hardware, Disabled. Restart the program every time you change a decoder type.

Also you can change the preview quality:
Settings -> Preview -> Quality = HD (without cache).
