Hi there

I have a video clip and I would like to have a black background fade into the clip at the start and then fade back to black at the end. I have the fade at the start, but at then end of the video clip the fade kicks in while the dialog is still going on. It seems to me that I want a delay transition before the fade to black so that the video clip completes before the fade starts.

Is there any other way to reproduce this effect?

In the storyboard I've added a black colour to the first frame, my video to the second frame and black again to the third frame. The transition between each is a "Fade Solid". The last fade transition starts while the video is still running. I can see this happening in the timeline display if a single step through each frame.

Is this what you wanted to know?

In fact, at the moment there is no special feature to do what you want.

But you chose the right way to apply fade in/fade out effect. Just one remark. To have the video completed before the fade out starts, please:
make a snapshot of the last frame of the video >> place it after the video >> set snapshot parameters >> apply Fade Solid transition (see the attachment)

Sorry...more questions. The suggestion to snapshot the last frame works, but the snapshot is not quite the same as the last frame so there is a very small flicker.

I've been looking a bit deeper and have found the following: If I take a snapshot in VideoEditor the size comes out at 640x480, however if I snapshot in VideoConverter the size depends on output type chosen.

Does this mean that I should snapshot in Converter with the setting as DVD PAL High Quality as this is the mode I will use to save the movie in the video editor. I know I can try and see what gives the best results, but I'm sure your response will give me a better understanding.

The snapshot quality directly depends upon the preview settings. So, you'd better make a snapshot using some player or even AVS Video Converter. The quality will be higher.

How did you do the fade from black effect and fade to black effect in AVS Video Editor? I have tried serveral options but none of them works....

If you can give me some tips would be greatly appreciated.

You need to add black color onto the timeline, then video and again color. Then switch to storyboard view and apply transitions between the objects. This way you will get a fade effect.
