I can't find the .mkv format to produce to directly.. I assume it would be simpler to save as a .mkv directly in the editor, than first saving it as uncompressed avi, then loading it up in AVS Video Converter and process it into a x264 MKV...?

I was looking at this too. It should be available somewhere. it would be interesting where this option is.
