I use AVS Video Converter 8.1 to convert AVI files to DVD format. The playing time of the file determines whether I select an output profile of GOOD (90 Minutes) or STANDARD (120 Minutes). Sometimes, if the file's run time is just a little over 90 minutes (like 1 hour 33 minutes), I'll select the GOOD profile and the program will ask if I want to "Shrink to 1 Disc(s) (Recommended)".
Now here's my problem:
Every time I select this option, the program shrinks the file to 4.0 GB instead of the full 4.7 GB which is available on a regular DVD. Why does the program not use the full 4.7 GB which is available? It seems to me that this results in a picture quality less than what it could be if the full 4.7 GB was utilized.
I can, of course, select a profile of STANDARD (120 minutes) for my conversion, but this would result in a picture quality even less desirable.
I would think that if the program wanted to shrink the output to fit the disc, that it would want to take advantage of ALL of the available disc space to maximize picture quality.
