I'm using VE 6.1 on a 64 bit WIN7 platform. When I try and load MP4 files I get a "File Format Error". I don't understand why, since they appear on the IMPORT MEDIA dialog under "All supported video".

Hello,

In order to solve this problem please repair AVS files:

1. Close all AVS programs and other running applications.

2. Follow Start > All Programs > AVS4YOU > Repair.

If some of the .dlls are not registered, please make a screenshot of the Repair window showing those files and send it to us.

Also, please specify the origin of your MP4 files, please make sure that they are not copy-protected.

Best regards.

I do no have the "Repair" option on mine.

I too see the "File Format Error" when I tried to select my MP4 videos sections for editing.

I am using Windows 7 on the 64 Bit Platform and AVS Video Editor (Unlimited Paid for version).

Any help would be appreciated in fixing this problem.

Hi All,

I am hoping that you can help me.

I have tried to upload MP4 files from my Dashcam recorder that are stored on my PC to the AVS Video Editor, but I keep getting a "File Format Error" every time.

I have re-uploaded the AVS and updated the version.

I have also tried the following:

But still, no luck. (please see screenshot attached).

A step by step guide would certainly be appreciated on this fix, please.

I am running Windows 7 64 Bit and have the AVS Video Editor Unlimited paid version.

Many thanks.

Dear Welshy,

Can you playback the MP4 file on any of your PC players without any problems?

Try to move the file you need to edit onto your desctop and inform if you can import it to AVS Video Editor from there.

Specify if you have any problems with other files of the same and different format.

Thank you for cooperation.

Kind regards

Hi!
usually the program worked fine until I import a video mp4 format, whenever I import this format the program gets stuck and then an error window appears and the program closes.
do everything recommended in support, use the program to clean up files which have avs (AVSUninstallCleaner) and reinstalled the program, also use the program to repair files (Repairing.exe) and even with all this could fix the error, the mp4 files are god and without copy protected.
Please how I can fix this ?? I have done everything and I'm already thinking about uninstalling the program because just does not work and for i can see i am not the only one whit this problem.

Just a wild guess here, can you try to disable any security software that you have installed and see if it makes a difference?

I am experiencing this problem also. This video editor worked fine on my previous laptop on the same company network running all the same security protocols and antivirus software. Since I go a new HP ZBook 14 running 64 bit Windows 7 I get the file format error for any media I try to import. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, ran the repair utility (all files were fine), tried running the program as an admin. Nothing seems to work. Obviously from reading this thread there is a problem running this editor under 64 bit Win 7 as that seems to be the common link to everyone in this thread.

The file I am trying to import all play fine on multiple players, and are not copy protected. I have tried MOV, AVI, MP4, MV4 and none will import without the error or hanging on the progress bar until I shut down the program.

I am at a loss as to what to try next.

I have located the source of the problem. After reading in your forums that many users running 64 bit Windows 7 were having this same issue I ran the Windows Compatibility checker on the AVS Video Editor EXE file and after resetting to the recommended compatibility settings (Win XP SP2) the program starts up in unregistered mode but it does allow me to import media files just fine now. However, when I try to reactivate the software running under this compatibility mode it no longer accepts my registration key. I get a "registration failed" dialog informing me that I have installed the software on two computers which is a violation of the licensing agreement. It is the same software installed on the same laptop! This issue has been known since 2014 and it is now June 2015 and the latest version of the program still has compatibility running under Win 7 64 bit version. When are you going to fix this?!

I have just purchased the unlimited licence from AVS4YOU and I am also having this problem with mp4 files not importing correctly. I am also running Windows 7 64bit version.

There are no specifications on your sales page to say that your product does not work properly with Windows 7 64bit.

Can you please advise what I can do? Do I just ask for a refund?

Regards,

Dave

Alright I made a test regarding about the file format error issue.

1. ) I upload a file with a shorter name and I got no problems at all

2.) I tried to upload a photo with a different name like this one. 9df8dc6928f88829975ed43d2bda5782.png and suddenly I got the same error.

I am wondering if the issue is about the filename? Try this workaround it might help.

People who download 480p,1080p,2K and 4K videos from youtube usually live this problem.. Because youtube start to protect videos.. They use DASH video and audio formats for a few years.. Only a few softwares can mux or encode this format.. You must reencode your video by using another software..

Dear Jukka,

Please specify if the video file you are trying to convert can be played without any problems on your PC players.

Specify the origin of the file and its name, name of the location of the file on your PC.

Do you have any problems with any other files of the same and different formats?

Thank you for cooperation.

I get the same problem sometimes. I have to recode them with Handbrake, then the Video Editor has no problem. For some reason, there is something about the video file that the Video Editor does not like, but Handbrake always fixes it. I would say it is a software problem and nothing to do with your PC.
