I have a giant problem. I have a VOB video file recorded off of TV onto DVD with my Sony stand alone video recorder. The aspect ratio plays back fine on my TV and computer from the DVD. BUT.....when I import the file into AVS Video Editor 6.0, the aspect ratio suddenly becomes squeezed on the left and right. It does not matter whether I set the aspect ratio to 4:3 or 16:9, it still appears squeezed. Please see my attached screen shots.

What can I do to have this file appear normal during and after processing with AVS Video Editor 6.0???

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello,

What resolution does your VOB file have? Try setting this resolution as custom aspect in AVS Video Editor.

If it does not help, you should correct aspect of input file in AVS Video Converter>Advanced>Aspect Ratio.

I hope it helps.

Best regards.

My VOB file originally recorded as a 4:3 aspect ratio.

I find that I can correct the squeezed problem by reconverting the file in AVS Video Converter into VOB again and manually setting the ratio for 4:3 in the Advanced settings. HOWEVER, when I do that, the converted picture seems to lose resolution and become more grainy--with more digital artifacts.

More questions:

In order to retain picture resolution, is it better to convert to VOB, MPG, FLV or perhaps AVI? Should I use single or multi-thread conversion? Should I convert BEFORE or AFTER editing in AVS Video Editor? Because when I create my finished product in AVS Video Editor, I have it convert back into VOB files for DVD burning.

Thank you for your time and trouble.

Hello,

I would better recommend you to convert your files to AVI format with h.264 codec as it gives the best output quality. And then edit and save resulted AVI files to DVD in AVS Video Editor.

Regards.

I tried to convert my file to AVI format in AVS Video Converter with the h.264 codec in as you suggested. But when I try to add the resulting AVI file to my AVS Video Editor 6.0 for editing, I get an error message with the red circle saying "File Format Error", and it will not import into the program.

So what am I doing wrong? Please help.

Hello,

Please specify whether you can import the converted file into AVS Video Converter. Please try to convert to Mpeg/ HD Video 1080p.

Best regards.
