H.264 AVC Videos with 5.1 channel audio used to work fine with Apple TV's version 4.1. Since the upgrade to AppleTV version 4.2 the same files do not produce any audio output anymore. Is there any way to get around this problem?

Hello,

Thanks for posting the problem.

We need to test the issue with new firmware for Apple TV. I'll get back to you as soon as the results are ready. Please wait.

Best regards.

I don't believe this is an Apple TV problem.

I believe iTunes is responsible. iTunes will not play sound on the videos I'm converting to Apple TV format.

I'm using the latest iTunes version with old Apple TV firmware. This is definitely an iTunes problem since it streams the videos to Apple TV.

The funny part is this: the videos play fine (with sound) in QuickTime. Talk about a screw-up over at Apple, eh?

Anyways...can you please check this out? Everything was working great until I upgraded iTunes and now I can't roll back. :(

Hello,

Do you also select surround sound in AVS Video Converter? There seems an upgrade in Apple products which does support Mpeg-2/Mpeg-4 surround as earlier. Sorry but we cannot fix the problem. We just recommend to use default profile for Apple TV with stereo sound, it has been made according to Apple TV specifications.

Regards.

Ok, maybe it's because of iTunes. Do you have the latest version?

I just downloaded the latest version last night before posting my reply. 10.2.2.12.

So my testing was done on the latest version of Video Converter 7.1.3.484 and the latest version of quicktime.

I also tried the Dolby On/Off/Auto settings on the Apple TV Audio Settings with no success.

I resolved the issue by using different settings.

I documented them here.
