Ok, so I have recently been using the AVS programs to convert, edit, and reformat my video files. It does everything fine except that recently I have noticed that my videos have been turning out very dark. Upon realizing this I went back and reviewed all of my videos and saw that every single one had been much darker and I hadn't noticed it yet.

Now, at first glance I thought I was just recording with a low brightness/gamma setting so I tried several different variations and yet the videos were still exporting dark.

Since I was getting nowhere I took the same exact file I recorded with fraps and put it into Windows Live Move Maker and exported my file in the EXACT same format as I do in AVS, and guess what. The video had the SAME brightness as when it was recorded, but when I use AVS to reformat that SAME original file it turns out extremely dark.

So, can someone explain to me why one same file can be put into AVS and Windows Live Movie Maker and reformatted with the same parameters and come out as completely different videos?

Why does AVS darken the file when it imports it? Also using the AVS brightness/gamma editor will not fix this, it butchers the quality of the video.

If you want I can probably upload both videos so you can see the difference.

Thank you for your time,

Hello,

Probably, it is the issue decoding video. We need your file to test it. Could you please upload it to our FTP-server? The instructions will be given to you in our support system.

Best regards.

Ok, so after a bit I realized that your FTP server doesn't support the normal file transfer that I usually use, so I just uploaded it via one of my FTP programs instead.

The file has been uploaded.

Hi All:

Any feedback on this issue? I am seeing the same issue. I have been using the edit to add brightness but am wondering if this is optimal solution

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Depends on video files and players in which you play the files. Some players using decoders which darken video. Therefore please try playing resulted (dark video) with different players. I'm recommending VLC video player - http://www.videolan.org

Best regards.
