I had been using video converter 6.3 for a whlie and noticed how the processor would run fast up to 85 % and slow until finished. 7 of 8 threads of the i7 920 would be near max. I read the reason why in another post, no problem. I'm now using version 7.0 and noticed that from start to finish the processor load is down. The overall conversion process seems to be about the same length yet none of the 8 threads average over 15%. Multi-thread is enabled. Is this normal for the new version 7? Most of the files I convert are .mkv to .m4v. Just finished a 52 minute 4.37 gig 1080p .mkv to iPhone .m4v in 55 minutes.

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, it is quite normal for new version of AVS Video Converter. Because of problems working on core i7, we have changed multi-threading scheme in the latest version to make the program work stable.

I hope it clarifies.

Best regards.

When you mention about problems with working on core i7, does that mean Core i7 processor is not suitable for AVS or a fix is being worked on?

I am very surprised at the suggestion this problem has been fixed. I just compared conversion times on my new i7 with an old vista machine I have. The old machine was twice as fast. The new i7 has 16 gigs of ram. I loaded the files to be converted on the built-in solid state boot drive. I set the temp directory to the ssd. In spite of this it took nearly twice as long to convert on the new i7 than it did on my old Vista with an 8 year old processor and only 3 gigs of ram.

There is a very serious problem with this. I set AVS to high priority. In spite of that, the CPU load runs at 1%.

When will this really be fixed? I am now regretting my decision to buy AVS for this new computer.

Actually, there were more terrible problems, such as crashing when converting HD video files on Core i7. I meant these problems have been fixed.

Could you please specify the format of the files you are trying to convert and which format/settings your select for output? If you convert to video with MPEG-4 (Divx;xviD) codec, try selecting H.264 codec.

Regards.
