For other people reading this thread I had a very similar problem with stuttering in converted files in 6.4 which was fixed with the March 15 release of Video Converter. So if anyone else is seeing this, it's worth checking out the latest release.

How's the testing going?

The AVS converter software is still flawed. Version 6.3.2.370 was the last version that actually worked on my Vista upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate machine. Version 6.3.3.371 introduced the stuttering artifacts which still exists today in Version 6.4.2.417.

Unfortunately, we still cannot reproduce the problem. It's even hard to notice stuttering artifacts in the resulted video which you provided to us. We are asking you to try converting DVD's in single-thread mode on your Windows 7 machine and see if the problem persists. You can select single-thread mode for conversion in Settings option of AVS Video Converter 6.4.2.417.

We would also appreciate if you specify configuration of your XP machine (CPU, Ram).

I'll will try the single thread mode this week and get back to you. With respect to converting VIDEO_TS files to MPEG-2, what is the purpose of this feature and how would one know when to use single or multi thread modes?

Multi-threading mode allows to convert video in several threads simultaneously on computers with multi-core cpu. It is faster conversion, however, the problem of missing frames can arise. So that is why we advise you try converting in single-thread mode. I hope it will help.

Okay, good news. Using single-thread mode eliminates the stuttering artifact. I took three VIDEO_TS files which exhibited worse case stuttering artifacts using the multi-thread mode and used those files for the single-thread evaluation. Each converted flawlessly.

Thanks for your assistance. When are you expecting to have the wrinkles ironed out in the multi-thread mode for us multi-core cpu users?

To: nadin Curious about the frame rate value of 29.969 in the output file even though the only selection in the drop down menu of the Profile Editor is 29.97. I see the 29.969 value on every VIDEO_TS.IFO file which I attempt to convert on the upgraded Windows 7 machine (AVS Video Converter version 6.3.3.371). I noticed that this is the case for all of the standard profiles which use 29.97 fps. On the other hand I always see the 29.97 value on the XP machine with the same AVS Video Converter version. The 29.969 value never appears.

I'm also having an issue where my encodes are coming out at 29.969 even though I select 29.97 and my original file is 29.970.

If I encode the file to an AVI, the missing frames are VERY noticeable. If I encode to an MP4, it's not noticeable (but I still want it to have the proper framerate).

I currently don't have any additional codecs installed. It's a fresh Windows 7 installation, so I don't think it should be a codec problem as I should not have to have third party codecs installed in addition to the AVS program.
