Hi

I've spent a lot of time creating a video project using video footage from a DV camera. The files are all AVI DV-PAL - 720x576 25fps - which I understand is a pretty standard format.

After I produced the final video as PAL DVD HQ, I was very disappointed with the quality - the video frame rate is not smooth to the eye like the source video. The total size of the video is less than 108 minutes which is indicated as the maximum length for HQ video.

I also tried just one video by itself and produced an MPEG2 PAL video file - the quality was exactly the same.

Looking around various places on the internet, I discovered there is DV Type 1 and DV Type 2 video. After running a conversion routine on one DV camera video to convert it to Type 2 video, I produced another MPEG2 PAL video file and the quality was much, much better.

I can see that I might have to run a batch conversion routine now on hundreds of AVI files now but I'm a bit fearful of what might happen to the video project I've been working on - will I have to start over again? Is there any other workaround for this?

Thanks
Matt

Export to MPEG-2 file as per profile "DVD PAL compatible - (MPEG-2, 4000kbps, 720x576, 25fps)"

The resulting MPEG-2 file is noticeably worse quality than the original.

Dear Matt,

Thank you for all the information and sorry for misundestanding.

If you decide to capture video from your DV camera anew, you will need to create a new project with the newly capture files, or replace the existing file in the project via storyboard.

When you start capturing video using video recorder, your project will not be modified, new captured files will be added to the media library.

Please specify if I can be of any further assistance to you.

Kind regards

I don't think you understand.

I have hundreds of AVI files in the format I described already above. I've created a project using these AVI files in AVS Video Editor which is 1 hour 45 minutes long.

When I export to PAL MPEG-2 file or PAL DVD HQ, the video quality is much, much worse than the source AVI files, and the quality in the source is not that great to begin with. There is a lot more "noise" in the picture, it is slightly darker and motion is not as smooth.

Dear user,

Thank you for the feedback.

To get the output file of high quality please select the input file parameters like frame rate, frame size and bitrate for the output by clicking on the Advanced button after selecting the format. To check the input file parameters right click on the video in media library - choose Properties.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you.

Kind regards.

Hi

I have tried many times with different bitrate and target format to get the quality ok, but every time it looks a lot worse.

Why wouldn't you tell me which format is best as you are a representative for AVS4YOU, correct? I have given you all of the information about the source?

I have uploaded source AVI to a file share - if you can download and import into a test video project, you will see that the default output formats do not produce a good video. Can you advise on the target format which won't make the quality worse?

Download is here: http://www.filedropper.com/source_3

Thanks
Matt

Dear Matt,

Thank you for the file and all the information.

I have selected the input settings for the output and have not noticed any decrease in quality - please see the screenshot attached.

The quality of the output to me is still very poor - the picture is fuzzier / noisier than the original and that is with the bitrate at 28800kbps which is very high for H.264/AVC.

I can't see any way to export the edited video without extra conversion? I have installed DV codecs (http://www.videohelp.com/software/Cedocida-DV-Codec) and then AVS Video Editor will give me the option to produce a file in DV format, the same as the source, but again the picture of the produced video is much worse and motion is not as smooth as the original. I've attached the parameters I used for this.

It seems very strange that I can't produce a file in the same format with the same bitrate and have it look like the original? This should be possible.

The media information for the output file is pasted below - it's almost identical to the source video.
