Hello, I am new to this forum.

I am an English professor and I am preparing a video on Shakespeare. I have done this before, but have run into some minor technical glitches.

This presentation involves ripping movies from various commercial DVD’s, then converting them and reassembling various scenes from them on a single DVD. Again, I am not a total newbie to this, but a bit of a technical novice.

I did this last year and produced an amazing video. I am trying to use the same tools: DVD Decrypter for ripping, and AVS Video Converter for conversion to either AVI or WMV.

Here is the problem. I can successfully rip the files no prob with DVD Decrypter. It’s a snap. However, when I go to convert the video files using AVS Video Converter, this program cannot “see” the ripped video files.

To be more specific, DVD Decrypter ripped copies more than 20 files successfully. The large video files are VOB files, 0.99 in size, labeled VTS_01_01, etc. However, when I go to convert thise files to AVI or WMV, they cannot be "seen" by AVS Video Converter, even though I know they are there on the HD. Can somebody tell me why? Are there settings I can change on either of these programs to fix this problem? Again, I did this last year with the same two programs and produced an excellent program.

A little more background: I am not a techie and have a slow learning curve. I would prefer to stay with these two programs, if at all possible, since I know how to use them. Also, I am limited on budget. If I do have to switch programs, please try to recommend a quality freeware solution, or something low-cost.

So my questions are:
1) What the heck is going on?
2) Why can’t AVS Video Converter "see" the large VOB files?
3) Are there any settings I can change in either program to fix this problem?
4) If I can’t fix it with these two programs, what similar, low-cost tools might help me make this video?

Also, it seemed when I did this last time, AVS Video Converter ran in the background and "automatically" converted the video files to WMV as they were ripped.

Thanks very much in advance for reading and responding to this post.

Hello,

Actually, we recommend to open VIDEO_TS.IFO file to convert DVD movie. That is why VOB files are not included into AVS Video Converter default input file types list. So, you should select VOB file extension in File Type option when you browse for input file in AVS Video Converter. Or you can simply drag&drop vob files into AVS Video Converter. But we better recommend to open VIDEO_TS.IFO file to convert DVD.

Best regards.

Vlad, thanks that helped. I am running the conversion right now to see how it turns out.

Another question though.

Right now, I am ripping videos with DVD Decrypter THEN converting them with AVS Video Converter.

Is there a way to convert the video with your converter WHILE I am also ripping, or do I need to rip first, then convert? I am not an illegal user. I am a college professor preparing a video presentation.

Is there a way to do this? If so, could you please send me step-by-step procedures, or send me a link to same. I am not a very sophisticated user, but I am learning.

Thank You,

Hello CharmedLife417,

Do you mean copying files to hard drive by ripping? You can just decrypt the disc with DVD decrypted and load DVD from disc into AVS Video Converter.

Regards.

Vlad:

I have tried and tried for weeks now to get AVS Video Converter to do what I want. I did what you said, lloading a brand-new version using the links you provided, and I am still having a major a-v sync issue. Unless you have more suggestions, I am going to have to try another app; I cannot solve the a-v sync issue.

Let me know if you have any other thoughts.

Thank You,

Hello,

Please specify which output settings you select and whether sync problem arises converting only to the one format, or other formats to. Also, specify your PC configuration (operating system, CPU, Ram).

By the way, if you are trying to cut several DVD's and merge scenes from them into single DVD, I would recommend you to try AVS Video Re-Maker software as it does the job without re-encoding. The porgram is available on our website www.avs4you.com. Here is the guide how to cut and merge videos with AVS Video ReMaker.

Best regards.

P.S. please discuss the issue in the related topic.
