Hello, testing out AVS Video Converter to convert my original Bluray disc and DVD files to WMV for playback on my computer and streaming to Xbox 360 via Windows Media Extender. I have four questions:

1) What is the difference between using Windows Media Video 9 video codec and Windows Media Video 9 Advanced? Which should I use for Blurays and which for DVDs (maybe it's the same setting)? I did a search for WMV9 vs WMV 9 advanced but didn't see anything that indicates which should be used.

2) The input file shows a frame rate of 23.976fps for a Bluray disc, but the Output File defaults to 29.97fps. Should I adjust it so that it is the same as the source, or does converting it to the higher frame rate provide an advantage. (Would changing the frame rate cause the audio to go out of sync?) Same question for DVD as well, should the output frame rate match the Input File?

3) The Audio Bitrate of the Bluray source shows as 384bps. This is odd as it is actually 640kbps as seen when checking the original file with Media Info. The Output Bitrate drop down does not offer 640kbps, should this be a concern, or is it best to just leave it at 384? I noticed the output file audio bitrate selections are different from other converters I am testing. Usually 448 and 640 are available to be selected. Any reason/advantage AVS does not offer these?

4) Would you suggest leaving the settings at the constant bitrate settings or to use VBR for best results.

Answering your questions.

1) These are differrent versions of Windows Media Video 9 codecs. Advanced is Windows Media 9 Advanced Profile. You can find the details about it here in Versions table.

2) It's better to convert with original bitrate to avoid such problems as jerky video, etc.

3) Our program offers standard profiles whith output settings which goes better with the codec.

4) I would recommend leaving constant bitrate.

Thank you for clearing that up. One follow up question in regard to #3: AvS video convert can convert DTS and Dolby Digital HD to true 5.1 (dolby?) in WMV? I am curious as the file I have imported does not show the correct source specs in the AVS "Input File" window. I have a DTS HD source with 1500kbps, 48khz, 24bit, but it shows up as 384kbps, 48khz, 16bit. Is that part of AVS' process in downsampling the DTS HD audio?

Hello Vlad,

I am experiencing this issue with every DTS HD file I have tried so far (about 5 or 6 different ones). They have all been m2ts files if that helps you at all. Every other type of file so far has shown the correct source audio specifications. Please let me know what you find as soon as possible.

Sorry for the late response.

Yes, it is the issue in our software. Unfortunately, DTS HD sound is not fully supported by our software, therefore we detect is usuall DTS tracks. We are sorry if it may be of any inconvenience.

Thanks for clearing it up Vlad. I am curious though how it arrives at 384 kbps as DTS-HD is 3000kbps and DTS core is 1500kbps (at least that is my understanding). So how is it showing up at such a lower bitrate (384)?

Based on this, would it be better (as in overall sound quality) to just convert the DTS 384kbps to WMA Pro 384kbps, or should I first convert the DTS-HD to say AC3 640 kbps before importing into AVS? Then convert the AC3 640 to WMA Pro 640 kbps? I am not sure if an extra conversion would negate any benefit in having a higher bit rate, or if it would be best to just do the one step 384 to 384.

DTS HD audio track also contains standard DTS 5.1 core for compatibility with old systems. So, as we do not support DTS HD, we recognize it as usual DTS audio.

Not sure if it is such a big difference in quality 384 and 640 kbps in this case... Additional conversion step usually reduces quality. I would recommend you to convert DTS directly to WMA Pro.

when I convert my videos to .wmv in motion scenes (action scenes when there are lots of movements) of the movie my video gets laggy. It slows down. Is there anyway to fix that problem?

Provide additional information:
- specify the moment when the video get laggy
- specify the format of the file you are trying to convert and its origin
- specify which presets you select for conversion
- attach a screenshot of your PC configuration: right-click My Computer, choose Properties, make a screenshot of the General tab

I am trying to convert a movie, Pirates 4 HD - On Stranger Tides
file: Pirates.of.the.Caribbean.4.On.Stranger.Tides.2011.1080p.Bluray.DTS.x264-SHiTSoNy

I also attached 3 files to make myself more clear about what i am trying to do...

Conversion - .mkv to .wmv (9 advanced) > special for xbox360 (wireless_N)
I downed some movies in 1080p wvc-1. Those were no problem to watch.

As you can see in my prtScn, the file size has become enormous, ...21.7Gig
And the bitrate, ...48165kbps!
This is not good when you want to look a movie wireless.

AVS tells me that it will convert to:
1080p 23.9 frames (like input)
bitrate 4791 kbps (like input)
Max file size 10.4Gig

Why does the converted file get over 20Gig with an enormous bitrate...?

I really like this program and want to make full use of it. I hope you can help me with some information?
