I tried following the user guide to get subtitles for movie, but don't see subpicture option in advanced menu. Can you even get subtitles? I needed english subtitles for a foreign flick.

trying to convert an MKV with embedded subtitles to avi using AVS video converter, but the subtitle selection (dropdown) is not showing as an option. I found I have to get/make an srt file, but since the subtitle is included in the MKV, I am not sure why I have to include a separate file for the converter to recognize a subtitle. is there anything in the works to correct this?

Hello,

Please make sure you are using the latest version of AVS Video Converter.

If the subtitles are embedded in the file, you do not need to create .srt files.

If the issue persists, please provide some additional information on the issue:
- specify whether you can play the input video with subtitles in players on your PC;
- attach a screenshot of conversion options tab of AVS Video Converter;
- specify whether the issue persists with other MKV files with subtitles.

Best regards

I have played the MKV's in VLC media player and the sub titles do show up (I have included a screenshot of it with the subtitle list). I have tried other files and the same issue occurs. the version of AVS video converter is 8.2 (which I have also included a screenshot of with the conversion options tab opened.

Hello,

We would like to inform you that AVS Video Converter supports only .srt and .ssa subtitles with MKV files.
We are sorry if this is of any inconvenience.
You can check the format of the subtitles by pressing Ctrl+I in VLC player.

Best regards

Hello,

If the subpicture field is not available it means that the software doesn't support these subtitles.

Best regards.

What is the common file extension of the subs that can be used?

Under the advanced tab, I don't have an opportunity to enter the .srt file type, only "track"

Please try to convert your video with subtitles the way it is described on this web page.
(you do not need to add the .srt file to AVS Video Converter).
Inform if you still get any problems.
Kind regards

Dear user,

In case you convert a video file with a .srt subtitle file please make sure that both files have the same name (e.g. My video.avi and My video.srt) so that the program could load the subtitle file correctly.

Then load the video file into AVS Video Converter and choose the Subpicture in Advanced settings.

For detailed instructions on how to convert video with subtitles please follow the link below:
http://www.avs4you.com/Guides/convert-video-subtitles.aspx

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you.

Kind regards
