I watch a lot of files on ipod A lot of my files today are mkv. When I use avs video converter to convert them to ipod files, the outputed videos have these small white subtitles that are distorted and dificult to read. I tried going to the settings for subtitles and changing them in the program but they turned out the same anyway. Is there anyway I can convert an mkv file with subtitles and get subtitles that are a little bigger, yellow and not distorted?

Do I have to extract the subtitles and then add them through the program or something else?

Specify please if the subtitles on your MKV files are internal (are not located in a separate file).
Those that MKV files have are usually internal.
Unfortunately for now it is not possible to edit internal subtitles using AVS Video Converter, but our developers are working on this issue now.

The subtitles are internal but I have mkvtoolnix that can usually, but not alwasy, extract subtitles from an MKV file. If I extract the files can they then be added into the video file and formatted using the AVS video converter subtitle settings?

It is possible to convert .MKV files with .ssa or .srt external subtitles.
Please follow this link to find the detailed instructions on how to do it.
External subtitles can be editted using AVS Video Converter.

I tried following those directions on this link.
http://avs4you.com/Guides/How-to-convert-video-with-subtitles.aspx
I used MKCextract to extract the file to an external file and used subtitle workshop to save it in a different format like srt. But the AVS Video Converter Program still doesn't seem to see that external file and I don't know why. It still only sees the files internal stream and not the external produced file. I even tried giving the subtitle file the same name as the video file except for the extension saying .srt. IF it helps the output format I am trying for is for ipod. So how do I get the AVC to see the external subtitle file so it can add that as an option and so the settings for subtitles in the settings tab will actually have some effect on the subtitle appearance. I mean is that setting -> subtitles only for DVD output or what?. At least the "Any Video Creator" free version I found online can give decent subtitles to those files that have internal streams subtitles and while the free version can't cut of the black bars on my files it takes the subtitles and put them in a font that's easily read and white against the background. All I want to do I change the font and maybe size so the subtitles can be read.

Again how to make a external subtitles visible to Video converter program? IT doesn't show an extra option when there is an external file. It shows the same option as the internal stream alone is present.

Please try to zip and attach the subtitle file here so we could analyze the problem.
