Make sure the disc inserted into the drive is not defected. Can you open it in Windows Explorer and view as a clean DVD?
Have you already burnt discs using other software on this PC without any problems?

Possibly your DVD-ROM does not support DVD-R discs.
You can click the option Get Drive Info under Tools in AVS Disc Creator and check up which disc types can be read.

Same problem for me in Windows 8.
Only occurs after the first disk has been burned with AVS Disc Creator.
Has to reboor Windows 8 to let it work again

Dear user,

The reason of the error masage is the program could not properly open the disc drive, because the drive might be busy with some other application.

To avoid the problem please try to:
- record some other disc using the same drive.
- use some other drive, if you have more than one, to record the disc.

You might also wait until the drive is released by the application (you can find that out if you look at the taskbar or the Windows Task Manager and see that there is a program running that can use your disc drive).

Restart Windows to make sure no other application uses the disc drive.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you.

Kind regards

Just out of curiousity, what is the brand of your DVD reader/writer?

You may be interested in the fact that I (and others) had the same problem with other software. It would not recognize that there was a disc in the DVD Drive. Brand and type had no impact. I eventually got my money back from them. Since it was a new computer, HP replaced the DVD Drive, but that made no difference. The solution - I bought an external USB DVD Drive and it worked perfectly with that drive. There is a very mysterious interaction with software and hardware that requires a lot of software engineering. Sometimes you just have to find a workaround.
