The problem is that Windows Media Player does not have proper video codec to play resulted file. To avoid the problem install codec pack or play video with AVS Media Player.

Regards.

Video files I convert to .avi and .mov playback fine on my PC. But when sent to other users they get the audio but a blank video screen. The xvid codec is nmissing and they had to download it from the web to get the vids to display. Why aren't the xvid codecs included in the conversion process? Seems like a pretty glaring oversight.

In AVS Video Convertert it is possible to create video that will be encoded using Xvid (in AVI or MOV format), thus Xvid codec is used in the convertion (encoding) process. But the created Xvid video file can be read (played back) only with the program that can decode Xvid. In other words codec functions as any archiving program, firstly creating a compressed file, then decompressing the file on the PC it is being played on. You can convert your video files to WMV format, thus it will be possible to playback them on Windows Media Player without any issues.

Perhaps, necessary codecs are not installed in your computer to play resulted avi file in WMP. Please try the solution give in the post #10455

The problem you have is also related to video codecs, so please try the same solution - installing codec pack.
