Hello all,

Running AVS Video Converter v8. When I convert an AVI file with subtitles (SRT) to 16:9 DVD the subtitle text is stretched, distorting the font. Converting the same file to 4:3 DVD, the subtitle looks great. Are there any steps I can take to retain my chosen font (Verdana) when creating a 16:9 DVD?

An example is attached. Only the 4:3 DVD uses the correct font.

Any suggestions or workarounds appreciated.

Thanks,

JohnC

Dear John,

Thank you for the information. I will pass it over to our developers team.

For now try to change the subtitles options in Settings tab of AVS Video Converter.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you.

Kind regards

Hi Nat,

Thanks for your response. There's no option to adjust this under the Subtitles section, alas.

Hi Nat,

The only options available under STYLE are Bold, Italic and Underscore. There's nothing for correcting the distorted font caused by the 16:9 DVD conversion process.

Dear John,

You can change the Font of the text for your subtitles, choose the narrowest one.

Unfortunately for now we cannot help you any further.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind regards

For info:

I tried most of the fonts and all of them look much worse in 16:9 than they do in 4:3.

It would be great if at some point this bug could be fixed. In the meantime, I'll switch to an alternative converter whenever creating a subtitled DVD.

Regards,

John.

Just an update for anyone struggling with this issue. For me, the best workaround was to hard-code the subtitles prior to converting to DVD. I used a subtitle plugin (filter) with my video processing/dub application. Enclosed is a sample of the resultant output from AVS Video Converter. Subtitle used in the example is Trebuchet MS (24).
