So I have these AVI move files that I would like to convert to DVD files so I can burn them and watch them on my DVD player but most of them are too big to fit onto one DVD disc after the conversion process. I have tried to split the file into two and burn onto two discs and it works but its a hassle. Is there any way to make it fit onto one DVD?

You can try choosing a lower quality preset in Profile field, for ex. Standard Play or Long Play. This way the quality of your output file will be reduced and its size accordingly. In case the output movie fits onto a single DVD, no message asking whether you would like to split the movie will appear after you click on Convert Now button.

Hi, don't know if this thread is still active but it's the closest I can find to my question:

I want to save my file as high quality DVD, and am happy for it to split across two DVDs, but it automatically does so midway through a chapter whenever the first DVD is full. This means the first disc comes to a very abrupt stop when it gets to the end - in this case, midway through a joke during a speech.

Is there a way to specify where it splits, ideally at a Chapter break?

Unfortunately, there is no such option in our software which would allow to specify the position of splitting. Sorry for the inconvenience. I will suggest our developers to add this feature to our software.

Unfortunately, size of your video files is too large to fit it to one DVD. What is the format of your videos?

They are all Mpeg created by AVS Video Editor.

Bit rate 3766kbps

Frame rate 29.97 frames/second

Video compression Mpeg-2

Duration of videos from 1st to the last: 35 nins, 1.57, 1.59, 2.04, 1.58, 2.01, 2.01, 2.00

Whenever I try to burn the video (say three of them) on a 8.5G dvd it wont burn but complained that it's too much. Is there a way i can compress it without losing reasonable quality. I need these video on not more that 2 dvd.

Unless you really need a menu to drive the dvd's, you could try converting the files to dvix, which would allow you to get all of them on 2 8.5 gb discs. But no menu's and the files just play sequentially. Otherwise there is no way you're getting a quart in to a pint pot.

I just can advise you to select lower quality output profile in AVS Video Converter (I can assure you quality still will be reasonable) or choose the option to shrink DVD in the drop down list in AVS Video Burner.

I have a somewhat related question on this subject. I have quite a few avi movie files on my computer that I can convert to DVD and then burn to single layer disc generally using the standard video quality settings in AVS video converter. These avi files are generally in the 700 mb file size range. But if I try to convert a standard DVD movie (using AVS video converter) to avi the file size is much larger (between 1 and 2 gigs depending on the setting I select). Then, when I attempt to take that avi file and convert and burn it back onto a single layer disc of coarse it wont fit any longer (many times the file would be to big to fit even on a dual layer disc). Obviously I'm doing something wrong. What I'd like is if you would give me an example of the settings you might use to convert a DVD movie file that originates in file size between 4GB to 4.7GB into a avi file of about 700MB give or take, that then could be dragged back into AVS video converter, converted to DVD and burned back to a single layer DVD. I'm sure this is a very simple procedure for many of your users but I cant seem to get a handle on it and each time I go to try a different setting it of coarse takes many hours to see the final result only to find out it did not work. The reason for this of course is to preserve the DVD movie in a compressed state, save on hard drive space and be able to re-burn it should the need arise. I would like to keep as much quality as possible using these parameters. So if you could give me an example of how you might do this it would be VERY APPRECIATED !!

P.S- this attachment is an example of the avi files I have that convert back to DVD format quite nicely and they all range in size between 699MB up to 780MB.
I just don't know what settings to use to accomplish the same feat though I believe the answer is staring me right in the face.

Hello,

I see the properties of your AVI files, however, there is no infromation about video codecs used for compression. Output files size also depends on the codec used for compression. We use h.264 or MPEG 4 (Divx, xviD) for conversion to AVI. I would recommend you to select the following preset Video: MPEG 4 (Divx, xviD) 768 kbps, Audio: mp3, 96kbps or similar with H.264 codec. Please note that in Advanced settings you can see Max file size for output avi file (see the screenshot attached). Try reducing video bitrate to get the size you need.
