Hello,
August 13th i purchased a licence key for AVS Video editor. The last week i spent editing my summer holiday footage. I am very pleased with the way the program works.
However when encoding the movie (HD-1080) the resulting file does not match the quality of the source files. The film is jerky and has quite a lot of artefacts.
I tried different encoding types (MPEG-2 and H.264/AVS) with bitrates up to 23000 at 25 fps. Still the quality is poor compared to the source footage.
The source footage is filmed with a JVC Everio GZ-HM-300SE. This camera produces files that are AVCHD (1080) with a bitrate of 23516,329 and 25 fps.

If i can't get the same quality for my edited film as the source files, the program is useless to me. Please help!
Greetings,
Lex

Hello,

Please specify whether all your files were cached while you imported them to the Timeline. Please try to convert video to AVI HD 1080p:H.264/AVC and don't change any parameters.

Best regards.

All the videos on the timeline were cached. First i encoded the video with the standard settings. That's when i noticed a difference in quality.
Then i tried to increase the bitrate for various output formats.
What i did notice was that the h.264/AVS conversion on standard setting resulted in a file that is a lot smaller (60%) than the original file (which is also h.264/AVS). Then i noticed the difference in bitrate; original: 23516, converted: 4200.
When i manually increase the bitrate to 23000, the filesize becomes the same as the orignal file, but the quality is still poor.

Hello Lex, Just uploaded a source clip. I just can't get this quality from the output file.
Both sharpness and smoothness are are less than the the source file.

Norbert.

Hello,

We have tested your file.To solve the issue we advise you to save video to Blu-Ray format. This format allows to save video with 24000 kbps.

Best regards.

I tried your suggestion to save the video in Blue-Ray Format. Unfortunately this still does not produce acceptable quality. I'm sure you agree on that.

This weekend i had the opportunity to test my files on a different video editor (pinnacle studio). This program is able to produce very good quality HD films. No difference to be found compared to my source files. I think there is something wrong with the codec you're using.

I really don't want to switch to Pinnacle (too "bloated"), but if you can't fix my problem i'm going to have to ask for a refund, because i'll be unable to use the progran.

sincerely,

Norbert

Hello Norbert,

I've just tested your example and I would say that quality of produced file is comparable with source video quality. I produced it to AVI HD 1080, but have set 24000 bitrate manually. Please make sure that you have the latest version AVS Video Editor 6.0.3.184 which is avaliable on our website. Don't you have old AVS programs installed? Also, where do you play resulted video? in what player?

Best regards.

Hello, i play my movies on a 1,5TB AC Ryan Playon HD on a philips 37" Full HD television. i don't stream, i play the files from the Playon HD.
Any diffence in quality is easily detected. I just do not agree that the produced file is of the same quality as the original, not by a long shot.

I think AVS is not ready for producing full HD films. Too bad, cause i really like the program. Also support is very good and fast.
But it's not working for me.

I would like a refund. How do we arrange this.

regards,
Norbert
