How can I solve the problem with the quartz.dll file?

Try saving the appropriate .dll to C:\Windows\System32.
You can use the file and instructions given on the following webpage.

Hello nadin, I followed your suggestion and the problem with the quartz.dll is solved now. I uninstalled and reinstalled AVS Editor, but the Preview screen still doesn't work.

Moreover, 1) when you import a video file (AVI for instance) and drag it into the line for main video, it's just blank - you don't see any image in it. 2) The only time I see something on the Preview screen is when I click on the "Stop detection" button (or ALT+N) and it's a high speed sequence without any sound.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Still try setting your display color quality to 32-bit: this solution has been offered above.

This must be helpful

I've always been set to 32-bit. Don't worry, I'll either reinstall Windows XP or upgrade to Windows 7 to see what happens. Many thanks for your help nadin.

There's nothing to thank me for really.
Please keep us informed whether the issue gets resolved after you reinstall the OS.

Nadin, I think it is fixed now. I was getting a "Class not registered" message in Windows Movie Maker, so I went to this page: http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=12304
Run the "regsvr32 %windir%\system32\quartz.dll" command and finally got everything back to work again, including AVS Video Editor, AVS DVD Player and Windows Movie Maker without reinstalling Windows. I posted the URL above in case someone with the same problem wants to try this solution. It worked fine for me. Thanks again.

Hi there,

After loading a sample.avi in the timeframe I try to view this in the preview window by pressing the play button. Then it indicates that it is playing but there is no video visable in the pane. Neither does the time advance or the slider move.

I have tried:
- to reboot the PC which is running XP Pro SP2, Media Player 11, direct X 9c;
- reinstall the complete AVS software;

but no improvement was visible.

All the samples I tried to view in the pane and did not see can be viewed by other apps like Media Player, Quicktime or Winamp.

Can you help me find the cause why I do not see any video in the preview pane?

Best regards,

Nico

During my trial, I had preview problems editing text, which I resolved by saving the project & restarting. However, having bought the editor, it now will not preview my saved project. I can preview stuff in the media pane, but not when it is transferred to the timeline. I can also preview stuff in a new project. I'm rapidly losing faith in this product. ( I'm on 32 bit & have tried the other 'fix').

Hello,

I had the frustrating problem like others with the preview window not working. I am on 32 bit colour size.
The problem first came up in Nov and I reported it and Nadin gave advice on a fix. This did not work but I was able to find a fix at the time and all appeared OK.

Now using again and the old problem is very frustratingly back. I can't recall how I fixed it last time and becoming very frustrated with this software now.

Any advice.

Many Thanks

Hello Again,

In addition to the last post - immediately above, I now recall what I did to get it to work last time.
Having looked at an old post, I checked my audio card and updated it. Last time after doing it, it worked.
This time - no luck.

Thanks, BostonBen

We need some more information on the problem, in order to find out what is causing it. Could you provide answers to the questions asked in this post. Thank you in advance

I have selected a video to trim, but when the trimming screen pops up and I play the file, the audio comes out fine but there is no video. What has happened?

Is there preview when you play the video in main preview window or does the problem persist only when you use the trim function?
Try using the solutions offered in this thread: 1) make sure you display color quality is set to 32-bit, 2) try updating drivers for your video and audio cards.
