AVS DVD Authoring is an application intended for DVD menu creation, it does not offer any video editig options, such as trimming.
So in order to edit your videos, please use AVS Video Editor instead.

Try using AVS Video Converter. Here is the link to AVS4YOU Help page concerning this feature.
Note that during to DVD conversion this feature is disabled.

After you edit a video in AVS Video Editor and save the movie (to any format, such as AVI, MOV, etc), you will be able to import the new movie into AVS DVD Authoring in order to build a menu for your DVD. Just use the Import button and add the file to the program.

Note that simple DVD menu editing features are also available within AVS Video Editor (they become available when you save your movie to DVD). However, unlike our video editing software, AVS DVD Authoring offers advanced DVD menu creation options.

Sounds simple enough but let me ask you a question first. If I import the video created/saved with AVS Video Editor, won't it all come in as one video i.e. one chapter? My goal is to have custom menus for each chapter. Or--- are you saying I would have to create/save 20 files (since I have 20 chapters) in AVS Video Editorand import each of them individually into AVS DVD Authoring?

As soon as file is imported to the program, it can be separated into chapters.

In order to create a DVD menu with chapters, first create a new project by clicking on File > New Project.
After you add your video to the timeline, you can set chapters manually (here is Online Help on this feature) or using chapters setup wizard (for Online Help click here).

There is also custom project mode available in the program which has a completely different structure with advanced features, so we would not recommend you to create this type of project, in case you do not find it easy enough.
Hope my explanation is clear :-)

Why not? This is one of the ways the unwanted scenes can be deleted in AVS Video Editor :-)

Hi,
I want to trim parts of a DVD directly from the disc. At the moment, i need to convert the DVD to AVI and then use the DVD Authoring tool to trim and cut. This is time consuming and i would like to know if any of the AVS software allows me to trim directly from the Disc.

cheers

Actually AVS DVD Authoring does not offer any trimming functions, you need to use either AVS Video Editor or AVS Video Converter in order to cut off the unnecessary parts from your videos.

You can import the movie you would like to edit into AVS programs directly from the DVD. When browsing for the movie, select your burner with the disc, open VIDEO_TS folder and choose VIDEO_TS.IFO file. But please do not eject the disc before you finish editing.
