i just bought this software on ebay and install it on my computer. the reason i bought this software is because i bought a new window vista and my camra's videos are MOV and window vista don't support MOV so i can't make a movie in the movie maker program. i conver the videos into AVI with AVS video converter and it lets me put it in but it won't show me the videos but the sounds of the video works though. What am i doing wrong that it doesn't work?

Most likely, the appropriate codec is not installed on your PC. In order to find out which one is required, please provide us with the information on the codec the file converted is encoded with. Open your AVI file in AVS Video Converter, make a screenshot of the Advanced window of the program (click on Advanced > File Information) and attach the screenshot here. This would help us to find a solution to your problem.

Regards.

According to the screenshot attached, the converted video is encoded with DivX/XviD codec. In case it is not played (only audio is heard), the reason might be that this particular codec is not installed on your PC. Try downloading and installing it. You can use the link given by cotoPeC within the following topic.

I converted a file from vob to wmv in the converter 6. The statement was that the conversion was successful, but no respond in any player (windows media player, power dvd).
Can anyone tell me the reason and what can be done?
Thanks

You need to install WMV9 codec. Please find the .exe file attached.

Also note, when converting DVD movies please choose VIDEO_TS.IFO as an input file.

Thank you, nadin.
I have installed the codec as you suggested, and unfortunately there is no change -again only audio whith a colleftion of stills, but no video. Do I have to reconvert the file? to format Avi for example? But then if this will help with the video - will it be possible to include the film in a presentation in powerpoint?

Hi, Ndin
I reconverted the file - this time to avi, and it played video and audio synchronised. Yet, when I added the file to my presentation, it played only video without audio.
Hope there is some solution!!!
Thanks in advance,

Have you converted VIDEO_TS.IFO file? Please make sure this file is correct, i.e. is played correctly in different players.
Could you specify the exact preset you have chosen when converting this file to AVI (or either open VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the program once again, choose the preset and attach a screenshot with all the settings, i.e. with the Advanced window of the program).

and it played video and audio synchronised.
Which players have you used to playback the converted file?

Specify the software you are using (program and version).
Does this problem occur when you preview the file in the program or after you build your presentation?

Hope to hear from you soon

Thank you so much for trying to help!
I attach a screen shot of the details you wanted to see. The video played well on 2 programs: windows media player and power DVD, but in the presentation (power point 2007) the window was pitch bkack and only sound was heard.

We have checked up PowerPoint 2007 for playing back the specified file format and it really plays audio only, with no video. So this is not the codecs issue. It seems as if PowerPoint does not use DirectShow to playback the movies, but the old controls used in 1997 version.

However, this question should be addressed to Microsoft, not us. If the file converted could not be played in WMP or PowerDVD this would have been conversion problem, but this is not the case. You might find it useful to search for some Help information concerning films addition in PowerPoint or contact Microsoft.

Best regards

I have Vista and one of the first programs I added was QuickTime Player and I paid for the upgrade to the Pro version for $30 for two main reasons. One is that many (not all) web presentations that use the QuickTime plug-in for playback can be downloaded (usually, unless the author restricts with DRM) and saved to my computer for viewing offline.

The second reason for getting the Pro version is what you were looking for. They call it Exporting (a menu Item from the File Menu) which is how to convert media formats. There is a preset for AVI format. Also there's a advanced button to tweak the settings for codec compatibility.

I discovered a third reason to get the QuickTime player (pro version not required for this) was that Vista does "kind of" support MOVs and MP4 H.264 because in Windows Explorer you can "PREVIEW" many files in a special 'pane' on the right side.
