I am using a registered AVS Video Converter 6.3 with Vista Ultimate 64-bit to convert VOB files. I have tried every file format (VOB to MPEG, VOB to MOV, etc.,) and the converted files all have some stutter (missing frames) on playback.
This makes your product unusable. Please advise.

See attachment for VOB file details.
95% of the output is fine, but the 5% stutter (missing frames) makes the output file unusable.

Suggestions?
Thanks

Anyone else have random dropped frames when converting VOB files?

AVS Video Converter 6.3
Vista Ultimate 64-bit
Quad core (all cores are active during conversion)
16GB RAM
RAID 0 (1TB)

Should I reinstall AVS Video Converter 6.3 ?

Hi,

I only just purchased AVS and while I do have some serious problems with the Video Editor (still waiting for a reply) , I don't have any problems using the converter. I'm converting my ripped DVD's .VOB files and the software merges all 4 files and convertes them into 1 Divx file.
Saves me heaps of HDD.

When converting DVD, please choose VIDEO_TS.IFO as an input file. Does the same problem persist when you convert this file? If yes, please also try converting other files, ex. other DVDs or files of another format and inform us whether such problem persists with one video only or with others also.

Problem solved. I was using only the 1 VOB file and not the VIDEO_TS.IFO as an input file.

Please try to answer my other post on adding text.

Appreciated.

Hi Nadin,
In January I downloaded the latest version of AVS Video Converter (6.3.3.371) and I see this problem on all VIDEO_TS.IFO file conversions to mpeg. The stuttering or "staggering" artifact occurs at least 5% of the time. Some conversions are worse than others but never more than 5%. At first I thought is was the DVD or even the decrpytion process but my XP machine converts that same VIDEO_TS.IFO perfectly.

For a number of other reasons I recently upgraded my Vista machine to Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit and the stuttering artifact still exists.

I have not converted any other file types such .iso or .avi to .mpg however, if I need to as a part of this investigation I will.

As much as I would like to see the latest version fixed, Version 6.3.2.370 worked very nicely on my Vista machine. Is there any way I get a copy of the prior version so I can get my pile of VIDEO_TS.IFO files converted while we investigate this anomaly?

Please could you attach a screenshot of the Advanced > File Information window of the program to get information on your input and output file parameters.

What you might find useful to note, is the frame rate of your input and output files. If they differ, the stuttering might occur because of that. Try choosing another preset in this case.

We do not provide our customers with the previous versions, as they might work incorrectly along with other newest software, as well as some problems have been corrected since then.

Kind regards

Screenshot of Advanced > File information attached. This is my MPEG 2 Profile which I’ve been using now for over a year.

Performed some additional testing using other standard profiles with the same frame rate on this same VIDEO_TS.IFO file and observed the same results. The exact same configuration on the XP machine does not render the stuttering artifact.

Curious about the frame rate value of 29.969 in the output file even though the only selection in the drop down menu of the Profile Editor is 29.97.

I see the 29.969 value on every VIDEO_TS.IFO file which I attempt to convert on the upgraded Windows 7 machine (AVS Video Converter version 6.3.3.371).
I noticed that this is the case for all of the standard profiles which use 29.97 fps.

On the other hand I always see the 29.97 value on the XP machine with the same AVS Video Converter version. The 29.969 value never appears.

Yesterday the new version of AVS Video Converter was released. Could you please try converting your videos with the updated program and inform us about the results.

Hope to hear from you soon

Regrettably I still see the stuttering artifact when using the current version, (6.4.1.416).

Hi Nadin,
Uploaded the VIDEO_TS folder to your FTP server, labeled it "wolverine58 for Nadin". If its any help the raw decrypted files play flawlessly. For this movie the first stuttering event occurs at the 6 minute mark. If you need anything else please let me know.

Best Regards

Hi Nadin,
Followed your reload instructions (twice) with no luck, same results on two seperate VIDEO_TS folders. System screen shot attached.

I used the Video: MPEG2, 4000 kbps, Original size, 29.97 fps; Audio: 224 kbps preset.

We've tested the movie you have uploaded once again thoroughly both on XP and Windows 7, but the problem still was not reproduced.
Have you tried playing the resulting video in various players? Possibly, you need to update codecs installed on your Windows 7 machine, required for smooth video playback. Try installing the latest MPEG2 codecs compatible with this OS.

Hi Nadin,
Safe to say I must have every MPEG2 codec known to mankind resident on the Windows 7 Ultimate machine, we have had the codec discussion in the past when I was running Vista OS on this machine. Version 6.3.3.370 performed beautifully on the Vista OS, Version 6.3.3.371 introduced the stuttering artifact. I upgraded to W7U for Vista in hopes that would eliminate the problem but - no such luck.

It doesn’t seem to matter where the converted file is played, whether it be on a laptop media player or a stand alone media player such as a WD TV or O!play, the stuttering artifact appears. Files which are converted successfully on the XP machine play flawlessly on the W7U machine.

It is only the W7U machine which creates the artifacts. Some conversions produce more, others less. The raw decrypted files play flawlessly in all cases so I can only conclude that it is the conversion process which is introducing the artifact.

Is there a specific MPEG2 codec or set of Codecs that I should be looking for? Can I send you the flawed converted file?

Regards

I’ve uploaded the movie with the stuttering artifacts to your FTP site, e.g. Movie Stutter for Nadin. First event is at the 6 minute mark.

This means that the problem is not connected with the codecs installed on your PC.

Thank you for uploading the output file as well.
We'll do some more testing and write back about the results.
