Hi all,

I used my original copy of Video Converter 5 to bring some raw videos down from 160,000 Kbps to compressed 4200 Kbps files

AVS 5 keeps the brightness the same but loses some saturation

so I got AVS 8 - saw that it preserved the colour quality and saturation and was pleased, until I saw that in dark scenes I can't see any object anywhere near as well as I did with the AVS 5 rendition

The settings I'm using in both programs is exactly the same - H.264, 4200Kbps, all advanced config settings are identical

Yet one program preserves brightness/contrast and loses colour, and the newer one loses brightness/contrast and keeps colour correct

I have been unable to successfully use the editing window to return either saturation or brightness back to normal without getting awful results that look nothing like the source file.

So I am stuck with a noticeable loss in quality on either side. Does anyone have any speculation towards a solution?

Thank you for any suggestions!

By the way I am really hoping for AVS 8 to be the program that I can work this out on, because I just paid for it today.

It shows every other detail in great condition, except for this unacceptable darkening that can't be reversed in editing

Not to bump my thread, but I mean to make my question more specific and hope it helps:

I like AVS Video Converter 8 but it seems to darken my videos so much that the night time videos are unviewable - using brightening effects in editing window just washes everything out - it seems that AVS is simply ignoring the darker shades of gray and turning them to black. Does anyone know a way to change this?

Hello,

We need your original file to test the problem. Could you please upload it to our ftp-server? The instructions will be given to you in our support system.

Best regards.

Thank you!

The file is transferring as I type. As the bitrate is very high, the video that I took those screenshots from is 2.1 GB and I won't upload that one.. I'll send another video of about 175MB that has the same encoding and the same issues.

When playing this source file in any media player you can make out the objects in the dark quite well, at least on my monitor. After AVS Video Converter processes it, it's almost all black --- thank you for looking into this!
