Why do the transitions I placed between video clips change the trim points I set on the clips before I inserted the transition? Just as important, why do the transitions disappear when I change the trim points? I have read the instructions several times and find no reference to this problem.

Actually, Trim points cannot be kept. Once you set trim points and press OK to close trim windows, trim actions will be applied to the video on Timeline. When you open Trim window again, it will not show you old trim points. It will show just the scene you selected on Timeline and if you change it, transitions will be deleted as they set to appear after certain scene (which you changed in Trim option). We recommend to set transitions after all trim operation are already done.
