I captured video from an HD DVR in avi format. then I edited the clips and saved them in DVD format. The quality of the DVD is terrible when played in a DVD player. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Could you please specify what is the exact problem with the quality? Does not DVD play smooth?

Please try to play converted DVD on computer from output folder (see Output File Name path). Does it play with the same terrible quality?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards.

Hello,

Could you please specify the format of the files from your JVC cam? It would be great if you could attach short example video (less than 10 mb) to your message in zip archive. Or you can upload the video to our ftp server, necessary instructions have been sent to you via our support system.

Regards.

Hi, thank you for your quick response. As I have said the original video source, named 'original' is from a JVC Everio HDD Camcorder in MOD format which has been renamed to MPG (apparently they are the same). And the AVS Video Editor output, named 'AVS output', is the end product of AVS video creation. As you can see the output file is hazy and the colour is not as vibrant nor are the image as sharp as the original.

Also you can not see here but in a longer project the video often is jerky, it freezes momentary, and sometimes it produces a scratch noise; this is also true when viewing from the output files produced by AVS on my comp.

Please find the test files at this link (I couldn't get it down to 10mb) Sorry.

Thank you in advance for your help

Hello,

Thank you for the files provided, we have tested them. Yes, you are right, the resulted dvd is a little hazy and is not as sharp as the original video, however we would not say the quality is terrible and we have not noticed color problem. We need a longer video for more investigation, it would also allow us to analyze jerky and freeze problem which you also mentioned. It would be great if you uploaded your quite long mod video to our ftp server, the instructioins have been given to you in our support system. Thank you in advance.

By the way, you can cut scenes from your camcorder files and remake them to DVD without re-encoding and quality loss using AVS Video ReMaker program. I would recommend you to try it.

Regards.

I’ve got the same problem. My DVD comes out blurry. I have a test movie that looks great when played on my computer. I made it with AVS Video Editor. It was made with the HD Video 1080p – (MPEG2, 15000 kbps, 1920x1080, 29.97 fps) setting.

When I make a DVD with it, it comes out blurry. I have tried it on both the 4:3 and 16:9 settings. The 4:3 comes out best but still blurry. When I looked at the DVD Authoring options, I noticed it only offers MPEG2, Bitrate bit 9400 kbps, Framerate 29,97, Frame 720x480; Audio Bitrate 224 kbps so I used Video Converter to convert my video with exactly the same specifications and then made the DVD. It looks fine on my computer but is still poor quality, i.e. blurry, when played on a regular DVD player and watch on my TV.

The movie file and the DVD Authoring files are attached.

Please help.

Hello,

Sorry for the late answer.

There are several profiles with output quality in AVS Video Editor and AVS DVD Authoring when save video to DVD (High quality, Good quality, Standard play. Long Play). Try saving DVD to different profiles and see which fits better to play on your DVD player.

When watching DVDs The playback is jerky.

I edit on Avid. The video is 24 FPS, so that is how I'm outputting it. The AVS authoring program only offers NTSC and PAL as their frame rates. naturally, I selected NTSC - 29.97. could this have something to do with the jerky playback?

thanks

Hello Gus,

It is not clear, do you edit DVD's in Avid or files of another format? What bitrate do they have?

Regards.

I am having a similiar Jerky problem using the AVS Editor when playing back on various DVD players. I loaded the files from DVD's that I wanted to edit and piece together to create a family video(approx. 55 minutes long). After editing, adding chapters, transistions, etc. and Producing to AVI format, the playback on the computer is great. Once I burn to a DVD and watch on the DVD player, the tail end of the video becomes jerky, both video and audio. Easy to use but terrible results. Will using mpeg, wmv or mov produce better results? Thanks for your help.

The DVD I am using are the Memorex DVD-R 16X/4.7GB/120min. The DVD players are Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blue-Ray, Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD Recorder. Is there a setting I need to set to match the 16X criteria of the disc? Thank you for your response.

Hello Lex,
The problem does exist when playing on the PC as well. It is generally happening when I have a combination of video and text effect, or text with transition, and with the scrolling credits with music. I have 32GB of RAM accessible.
Thank you for your assistance.
Also, is there any way to burn a created movie once produced and saved on the PC that will included the Chapter/Menu without having to reproduce the project again on the AVS Editor?
