Can someone please expand on this for me? I really find it hard to believe that Video Converter can change everything (resolution, fps, etc...) but can't do something so fundamentally required such as resampling the bit rate in a WMV. Come on, I just don't buy it. :)

On more thing, the support person below stated that "So even if you changed the bitrate in the previous version of AVS Video Converter, the bitrate in the output video files might have been different." That is very untrue. If I re-encode a wmv from '720x480 1500bps' to '320x240 400bps', then the output result is 400 bps. That's just the way it works, no mystery there. If it wasn't 400, my MP3 player wouldn't play it, and the file properties wouldn't report it.

Would someone give me a straight answer please? Forgive me if I'm not explaining the situation correctly. Maybe it's me?

ME:
Thank you for your response. Perhaps I didn't explain my scenario properly. I have a source WMV file that was encoded at a bit rate of 1500. That's great quality for watching on TV but my MP3 player doesn't support bitrates that high. I've been using AVS Video Converter to resize it to 400bps - which is compliant with what my mp3 player allows. Are you saying that the new version doesn't allow this anymore? That's exactly what AVS is supposed to do is convert video like this. All of the other formats allow for bitrate size. The previous version allowed for this. I really just thought that it was either something I was doing wrong, or a bug or something.

SUPPORT:
Bitrate settings for the WMV format have been disabled because of the restrictions put by the format specifications. If you change the bitrate, this new value may be unsupported by the codec and the file will still be converted with standard bitrate settings. So even if you changed the bitrate in the previous version of AVS Video Converter, the bitrate in the output video files might have been different.

ME: I'm using your new version 7 and video converter and now when I try to configure the bitrate (for WMV) is says N/A and no option to change the bitrate. How can I change the bitrate for WMVs? This was not a problem in older versions.

Hello,

Yes, it is true, changing bitrate for WMV format is not avaliable in the newest version. Actually, there were problems with it in the previous one and that is now disabled. We apologize for the inconvenience caused!

Best regards.

I agree this is a horrible step backwards for the product. Me and my collegues have useed avs for approximately 2800 conversions and never encountered any problems in regards to the bitrate. I will have to say if they're isn't an update correcting this issue We'll have to find another product.

Thanks,

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

The option was disabled because of several bugs and it will be returned in the next version of AVS Video Converter.

Best regards.
